Unpublished photo of Armand Niquille in his studio
From the 1990s, Bruno Maillard, a well-known photographer from Fribourg, produced a series of black-and-white portraits of people with whom he had a special relationship, gradually building up a panorama, a personal universe.
Armand Niquille, his teacher at Collège St-Michel, is one of these "constellation of friendships". The photographer took this frontal portrait of the artist in his studio, in the middle of paintings in progress or completed, in his well-known painter's clothes. Despite his advanced age, dignity and assertiveness emanate from this photo, a touching testimony of the artist at the heart of his own universe.
Bruno Maillard remembers his drawing lessons : " Teaching was clearly not the artist's priority, but he instilled in us simple artistic values, it means starting from nothing to achieve beauty".
